The WSU women’s rowing team closed out their fall season on Sunday in Seattle, winning two out of the four events they competed in. Cougars raced three varsity eight boats and two varsity fours.
The varsity four, which included Jennifer Hale, Kendall Boliba, Ashlee Bonahoom, Carly Johnson and coxswain Rebecca Burns, won the race with a time of 20 minutes 15 seconds. They out-stroked rival the University of Washington by three seconds and also beat Seattle University, Portland State, the University of Oregon and the University of Montana. The second varsity four-boat took third place.
The third varsity eight-boat out-stroked UW by twelve seconds and won the event with a time of 18:51. The boat members were Krista Lizardi, Carter Marks, Sarah Steger, Courtney Hammer, Allie Reilly, Erin Ranney, Brianne Gould and coxswain Lauren Leahy.
The Cougars varsity-eight boat, consisting of Mickey Aylard, Hannah deVos, Kellen Srb, Molie McCabe, Alision Smith, Emily Starkel, Noel Christiansen at the bow and coxswain Emily Boquet, finished second in the women’s varsity eight championship. They finished with a time of 18:10.
The team successfully out-stroked UW when it came to the women’s collegiate 3V 8+ race as they won with a time of 18:57, and for the women’s collegiate 4+ with a time of 20:15.
The WSU women’s rowing team returns March 30 to face Gonzaga at Wawawai Landing.
