More than 40 booths will fill the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Event Center on Saturday as brides-to-be file through rows of bakers, photographers, videographers and other wedding vendors.
Aria McKain, lead event coordinator for SEL, said the Big Event Bridal Fair is put on as a gift to the community.
“The event center is known as the center of the Palouse,” she said. “Many charitable organizations hold galas here, brides from Moscow and Pullman and surrounding cities hold weddings here, local caterers know and love the facilities, so it's really a perfect place to hold a bridal fair.”
This bridal fair has been a Palouse tradition since 2006. This is the first time the fair will be held in the spring instead of the fall.
Michele Utzman, owner of Moments in Time Tuxedos, was the one to organize a bridal fair before SEL took it over. Utzman's company has been involved with the fair ever since.
“We took over Tuxedos when the last Pullman men's clothing store went down,” Utzman said. “[People] don't have to drive to Spokane and returns are much easier. Our seamstress is in Pullman so alterations are much simpler.”
At the bridal fair, the store will be featuring her store's tuxes, as well as the wedding gowns they will be closing out.
“I want (brides-to-be) to see the local options, some great design ideas for their weddings,” she said. “It's just some great inspirational points to make that day as fun and stress-free as possible.”
McKain said that this year's bridal fair should be something everyone can attend, regardless of relationship status.
“My favorite part would be having this beautiful venue full of happiness and excitement and festivity, all the brides-to-be and everybody else who comes to enjoy it,” McKain said. “Our idea is that this is our Valentine to the community."
The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
