The WSU women’s basketball team begins their 2012-2013 campaign with a game against Simon Fraser University from Burnaby, B.C. tonight at 7 p.m. in Beasley Coliseum. The is the first of their two pre-season exhibition games.

This will be the 12th time in history the Cougars have played Simon Fraser, with WSU leading the all-time series 7-4. Tonight’s game marks the first meeting of the teams in 20 years.

Last year, the Simon Fraser Clan went 17-11 in their final NAIA season. This year, they move up to NCAA Division II competition as the first Canadian NCAA member school. They started their season last Friday by winning an exhibition against Douglas College 101-40.

The Cougars start their season coming off a productive offseason and a 13-20 record in their 2011-2012 season. The 13 wins by last year’s team was their highest win total since the 1995-1996 season, a number which they will look to build upon this year once the regular season starts.

Tonight’s game will also mark the first collegiate experience for six incoming Cougar freshman.
