The WSU volleyball team picked up their second conference loss of the season Saturday, dropping a match to Arizona State University 3-1.
WSU (10-4, 0-2) dropped the match to ASU (12-3, 1-1) with set scores of 18-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 23-25.
Jaicee Harris and Rachel Todorovich led the Cougs with 28 combined kills, 15 and 13 respectively. Marcelina Glab added nine kills and seven blocks of her own, while Camryn Irwin put up 40 assists, landed two service aces and had two blocks. The Cougars out-blocked the Sun Devils 12-7 in the match.
"When we can't get our middles going, we have to rely on our outside hitters too much, and that's when we get into trouble," WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said in a press release.
She said the Cougars served and blocked well in the preseason, but those areas did not go well during Saturday’s game.
"We talked about being consistent during the break,” Greeny said. “There were more valleys than peaks, and we can't do that if we're going to be successful."
After playing on the road for three consecutive weeks, the Cougs will play next weekend at home. WSU will return to Bohler Gym to take on UCLA and USC on 7 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, respectively. The USC match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
