The WSU rowing team placed first in both the Portland Loop and Portland Fall Classic Saturday and Sunday.
WSU raced three varsity eights and two varsity fours in the Portland Loop and two varsity eights and two varsity fours in the Portland Fall Classic. In the Portland Loop regatta, the Cougars competed against the University of Oregon and Gonzaga University.
In the Portland Fall Classic, the team competed against Gonzaga University, University of Portland, Willamette University, Lewis and Clark College, Portland State University and Seattle University.
The varsity eight completed the Portland Loop 4.5-mile race in 22 minutes and 47.22 seconds (22:47.22). The A and B boats posted the second and third fastest times of the day for the regatta in the women’s collegiate 8+. WSU boat B finished the course before boat A with at time of 23:16.32. Boat A had a time of 24:51.14 for the race. Gonzaga boat A completed the race 19 seconds after WSU boat A with a time of 25:09.04.
In the varsity fours race, the WSU women’s rowing team took the top spots against Gonzaga and Oregon, finishing race 9 with a time of 26:51.57 and race 11 with a time of 27:03.14. The closest competitor in varsity fours was Oregon, finishing race 11 with a time of 31:511.58.
In the Portland Fall Classic, WSU had the fastest time of the regatta. The women’s varsity eight team completed the course in 18:03.78. Their closest competition during the race was Oregon State University, an opponent that the team will be racing against in the Pac-12 regattas in spring. OSU completed the course with a time of 18:11.04. Gonzaga placed third in the race with a time of 19:14.36.
WSU’s second and third varsity eights competed in the women’s collegiate JV 8+. Boat A posted the top time in the race, finishing in 18:19.94. OSU had the second fastest race time with 19:00.85. WSU boat B was third to finish the race with a time of 19:32.29 for the course.
The Cougars also competed in the Portland Fall Classic with two varsity fours. The first WSU varsity four posted the fastest time of the women’s collegiate varsity 4+ with 21:12.89, beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs by more than 21 seconds. The second varsity four, which raced in the women’s collegiate JV 4+, had a time of 21:31.82, beating Gonzaga, who finished the course with a time of 22:27.44.
The WSU women’s rowing team will compete against the University of Washington Saturday in the Head of the Lake regatta.
